Textual content description offered by the architects. Norfolk Barn is the conversion of a disused agricultural barn right into a beneficiant four-bedroom household house, characterised by a relaxed restrained exterior and dramatic inside volumes, which create home areas on two flooring throughout the expansive 450m2 footprint of the unique barn. The home celebrates its agricultural heritage, sporting its home conversion frivolously. Constructed of quotidian corrugated steel partitions and roof and punctured with roof lights, the addition of a high-level veil of vertical larch louvers contributes a finesse acceptable for a dwelling.

Externally the home presents a quiet façade to adjoining homes and the listed parish church, which shares a boundary with the positioning. On the principal façade, there isn’t a discernible entrance; the elevation is as an alternative outlined by a metal-clad drum redolent of a silo, which cloaks a spiral stair linking the home’s two flooring. A recessed entrance is hid within the shadows. The straightforward vertical sample of steel and timber louvers wraps the entire constructing, breaking on the rear elevation to disclose double-height curtain walling allowing uninterrupted views of the panorama. The home and backyard are impressed by the serene environment of the consumer’s holidays. Central to the design is a 15m indoor swimming pool which runs the size of the home and is accessed through the primary social areas. Recreation, leisure, and play are on the coronary heart of this house.

Internally, the home proprietor was eager to protect the uncooked and cavernous character of the unique barn and keep away from overtly home finishes. The inside is outlined by pure architectural buildings impressed by the direct and rudimentary language of agricultural crops and buildings. These buildings body two principal double-height areas: the dwelling, kitchen, and eating areas and the indoor swimming pool and spa space. An in-situ concrete body with articulated timber elements locations a dramatic new master bedroom aloft the pool. An adjoining timber-framed construction clad in veneered plywood runs the width of the barn, creating extra intimately scaled areas together with, on the higher stage the boys’ bedrooms and a visitor bed room with a personal enclosed terrace and, on the bottom flooring stage a comfortable den/TV room with a lowered ceiling.

In its kind and supplies, the structure preserves the reminiscence of the constructing as a functioning agricultural area, whereas accommodating new home makes use of with an extra stage of consolation and refinement. The dimensions of the inside fittings and supplies have been fastidiously tuned by the consumer to narrate to the big areas whereas accommodating home life.
