Attract of Cash Shuts Down Maker’s Sweet in NY Derby

[ad_1]

Maker’s Sweet  might have held the higher hand with bettors heading into the $150,000 New York Derby July 17 at Finger Lakes, but it was local hero Allure of Money  who polished off his sixth start—all over the Farmington oval—with a victory.

Breaking sharply from the gate under Luis Perez, Allure of Money was ushered to the front behind Tacony Road  in :24.09 until finding the lead in :48.93. At the top of the stretch in 1:13.79, Maker’s Candy had angled his way to second and gave chase under urging from Jose Ortiz. The two broke away from the field and duked it out to the wire with Allure of Money securing the win by a neck to finish the 1 1/16 miles in a final time of 1:46.82 over a fast main track. Mo Trump  was 13 lengths back for third.
